Today, I miss the smells of incense filling the house and jasmine flowers in my mother’s hair. I miss the Diwali parties and getting to light sparklers at the end of them with all the other kids. I miss all of the good food and not only do
I miss my family in Texas, but I miss my family in India. Today and over the next few days, we celebrate the triumph of Good over Evil, of Light over Darkness. It’s a time to think about all of the goodness in each of our lives and all of the little fortunes, big or small. No matter what your denomination is, if you’re alive and breathing, have a roof over your head and people who love you, I encourage you to remind yourself that you are blessed. Think about that and think about the positive experiences you’ve had throughout this year and “may the year ahead be flooded with light for you.”
